About
I’ve long been a fan of recording personal stories. My attention is easily captured by the spoken story, such as conversations recorded by Story Corps, and by the written story, such as the spiral-bound pages of family history that a grandmother or grandfather carefully wrote, and by commercially published memoirs.

Introduction
I have had the privilege of recording and helping to shape the personal stories of several family and friends. It’s an honor to propose questions that help reconnect a person with their memories, to record stories, and to work with individuals to shape spoken stories into words on a page and pages into a book that can be shared.
I’m excited that my most recent project has become a completed memoir! What started as a project to stay occupied during the long year of the 2020 Covid pandemic has continued as a collaboration between a relative and myself to record, shape, and hone his stories. I’m thrilled to say that publishing prospects are looking good for my uncle Dan Shenk’s memoir, that we are calling A Search for a Blessing: the Gay Son of Mennonite Missionaries Turns AIDS Activist.
